SEATTLE — One of the fun things that Penny Arcade Expo offers is the juxtaposition of gaming’s future and its sordid past. Observe: Together in one place, Naughty Dog’s very first game*, Way of the Warrior for 3DO, and their latest, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
While Naughty Dog is certainly doing quite well for itself now, its debut game* — created in its entirety by Jason Rubin and Andy Gavin, then each 24 years old — is considered to be one of the worst Mortal Kombat clones ever, which if you lived through those days you know is really saying something. I’ve never played it, just heard rumors of its awfulness. So of course I bought it from retro game vendor Y-Bot, who has set up shop across from the Beatles main stage.
*Whoops: As pointed out in the comments, it had made games before this. I erroneously assumed the company name started with this one. Apologies.
