Yes, it’s another week of absolutely nothing for Nintendo’s much-abused unloved red-headed stepchild of a service, the Virtual Console.
You might say that it’s unfair that I point this out when I haven’t been writing about the Virtual Console releases that have happened. Okay, you should definitely buy Pulseman, the import-only Genesis action game from the creators of Pokemon. And yeah, Super Punch-Out!! is totally worth it, as is Zelda: Majora’s Mask.
So that’s three truly great old games — since GDC. Remember when we got Excitebike, Splatterhouse, and Beyond Oasis all in one day? In one day! We thought those days would live forever. Now, we have traded in awesome retro games for mediocre WiiWare games. It is to weep.
Silly me for thinking that Virtual Console’s offerings would expand as Wii’s userbase grew. Wouldn’t that make sense? That a larger, more diverse group of players would support a broader library of games? Guess that’s not how it works, after all.
