You fanboys can keep your Master Chief.
It’s been a just over a decade since I last tackled the vile Flemoids—green slime monsters that threatened to do… something nefarious. Kidnapping, vandalism, that sort of thing. But Chex Warrior has returned with Chex Quest 3.
For the uninitiated, Chex Quest was a rather remarkable advertising ploy, developed by the now defunct Digital Cafe. A total conversion of Ultimate Doom, the game was tossed into boxes of Chex cereal way back in 1997. I don’t even like Chex, but free(ish) game? Score! As an added bonus, it came with a whopping 50 free hours of AOL 3.0.
This nostalgia-laden pack features the complete trilogy, in case you need a refresher course, or haven’t ever experienced anthropomorphic cereal combat. They’ve also been redone in in the ZDoom engine, which adds all of the modern conveniences young whippersnappers take for granted – looking with the mouse, crouching, jumping, etc.
The game can be downloaded as a standalone application, for Windows only. Now if someone gets around to re-creating Captain Comic, I can finally buy some footie pajamas and relive my glory years.
