It’s hard to track down a copy of Castlevania Chronicles for PSone, but now you needn’t bother: It’s available today as a PlayStation 3 download.
Chronicles is a remake of a remake. It’s based on the version of the first game in the vampire-hunting action game series that was released in 1993 for a Japanese personal computer called the X68000.
It’s actually a rather intricate port: There’s a version with new graphics and music, but if you want to play it as it originally appeared on the computer, you can do that too — even going so far as to choose which of the X68000’s various aftermarket audio module add-ons you want to emulate.
At $6, that’s not a bad deal at all for series fans. Especially since Sony’s PSone download section is such an inexplicably barren wasteland, and especially because Virtual Console sucks now too.
