TOKYO — Sure, we’ve seen plenty of art inspired by retro games, but the “Famicase” exhibition touched on another important part of the retro gaming equation: the cartridges.
Held in May at Tokyo retro game specialist store Meteor, the show invited artists to contribute their own cartridge art using the carts themselves as the medium.
Even though the show is over, you can still take in all of the imaginary Famicom games that were part of the exhibition at the “Famicase” website, which also includes brief descriptions (Japanese-only) of what each title was about.
I think I really would have loved to play something like Oh! Tamanegiyarou Chindouchu!, an action RPG that revolves around onions, or even Breath-kun, which takes the long lost art of cart blowing to new — and unheard of — levels of play.
