Gamers who prefer their retro gaming experience to include physical cartridges have something to smile about, thanks to Cyber Gadget’s Famulator, an emulator of the original NES (or Famicom, as it’s known in Japan).
Even though enjoying old games has never been easier thanks to releases on Microsoft’s Xbox Live Arcade and Nintendo’s Virtual Console, for some, it doesn’t replace the enjoyment found in dropping a cartridge in a console to play. Walk around a few stores in Akihabara and you’ll find plenty of emulators on sale, like Gametech’s Neo Fami or Gamemate’s FAMI, but the one that has really taken off is the Famulator.
Selling for 2980 yen, it’s the one you’re most likely to find in stores, and as you can see in the photo, is the model of choice at Retro Game Camp, a shop that specializes in retro gaming.
