Think you’ve got videogame gold in your closet? Bring it to PAX East and we’ll tell you if it’s trash or treasure.
I am excited to bring you the official news that I’ll be hosting a panel at this year’s Penny Arcade Expo East, to be held March 11-13 in Boston. The panel, tentatively titled “Videogame Antiques Roadshow: Are Your Old Games Actually Buried Treasure?” will be a live Pawn Stars-style show in which our panel of game collecting experts will talk about the items that audience members bring with them to the show.
Besides me, we’ll have Frank Cifaldi, a 1up.com editor who specializes in finding and writing about unreleased game prototypes at Lost Levels. And there’s also Mike Mika, head of development at Other Ocean Interactive and owner of one of the most impressive game collections in the world.
The panel will take place on Saturday March 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the Manticore Theatre.
We’ll go over the history of the items, bring up some interesting trivia about why they’re collectible (or not!) and finally take our best guess at the market value. Anyone with an interest in collecting will find this to be an interesting and unpredictable hour.
But we need help! While we are looking forward to surprise walk-up participants from the audience, we would ideally like to get in touch with anyone that knows they want to participate. If you’re interested in having your collectible evaluated by our panel, send an email to paxpanel@gmail.com. You can also drop us a line on the Facebook event page.
