Another Monday, another batch of Virtual Console games. But there’s just no explaining this week’s lineup, which consists only of NES barrel scrapings Urban Champion and Baseball. Skip ’em both and buy some more of the awesome games that hit on Christmas Day… even if they did jack the price up on R-Type for no reason.
As I said on the last episode of Retronauts, Nintendo wants to have their cake and eat it, too, when it comes to Virtual Console. Let’s just assume that they’re not going to change their ways, and we’re only going to get a few titles a week from here on out. If that’s the case, then they should never, ever have a release week like this. There’s more than enough top-grade content between the five consoles to have at least one high-quality entry every Monday.
And if that doesn’t happen, they could at least substitute quantity for quality. Say what you will about the benefits of staggering the release list and trickling out games, but when you’ve got the combined libraries of the Genesis, TurboGrafx, SNES, NES, and N64 at your disposal, there’s no excuse for a two-game week. Maybe if said two games were Sin and Punishment and Chrono Trigger. And these ain’t.
Let’s whip VC into shape in 2007, guys.
