Wonder Boy completists got one step closer to having every single version of every single game in their beloved series available on Virtual Console today with the release of Wonder Boy in Monster Land.
With the addition of this 1988 Master System game, Virtual Console now has seven games in the series. If you count Japan-only releases, that number jumps to nine.
Which is odd considering that there were only ever six games released in the series. For an explanation of how that is possible, see my 2007 piece on the convoluted saga of Wonder Boy games, which I updated today with the new info.
If Virtual Console is indeed going to die like this, I think it would be hilarious if Sega just pumped out every last iteration of *Wonder Boy *in its catalog. I can think of three more: Wonder Boy III Monster Lair and Monster World IV (Genesis imports) and Wonder Boy III: The Dragon’s Trap (Master System).
